This paper aims to globally search the optimum slip/no-slip configuration of hydrophobic surface for improving tribological performance of the sliding bearing, such as load carrying capacity and friction loss. The nonlinear limiting shear stress model instead of conventional slip length model is employed to accurately simulate the boundary slippage of the hydrophobic surface. The efficient Monte Carlo search is developed for the optimization design of slip/no-slip configuration in hydrophobic surface without relying on initial configuration and sensitivity. Compared to genetic algorithm, only one numerical reanalysis is required for each Monte Carlo search in slip/no-slip configuration designing. Effect of aspect ratios of the hydrophobic sliding bearing on optimal slip/no-slip configuration is studied. Our results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
