Highlights •Entrainment of kaolinite by water films was high in flotation in saline water.•MF1011 reduced kaolinite entrainment significantly but PEO did not.•MF1011 produced a compact flocs structure with E-E and F-F associations.•PEO produced a sponge-like structure with E-F associations.•PEO produced high stability of foam with a thick layer of water unlike MF1011.
