Highlights •Emission concentration of PM from HLH combustion was higher than that of HS.•Particle size distribution of PM was not consistent with that of trace elements.•Blending coal not only suppresses PM formation, but also reduces trace elements emission.•Blending coal could stabilize trace elements in the residual phase.
