The article focuses on natural law in Catholic societies. It discusses objections commonly made against the idea of something being right by nature including the objection that natural law lacks the universal validity claimed by its defenders. It states that those thinkers who understood themselves as Enlightenment thinkers believed in the possibility of a complete positive specification of natural law. According to the author, there would be no law if there is no positive law.
