The article presents an interview with Robert Liberles about historian Salo Baron. Liberles claims that he does not know who were the influences on Baron. He suggests the idea that Baron wrote social and religious history because he sees himself as a successor to Heinrich Graetz and Simon Dubnow, major figures in Jewish history. Liberles thinks Jewish scholars are influenced by things that happen in their community, and that they are aware of the role that communal issues play in their work.
