The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Public Policy Committee has identified public deliberation as a potentially viable strategy for re-engaging professionals and families in the public policy work of the association. To test the feasibility of this approach, the AAFCS worked in partnership with the Kettering Foundation to equip members with an educational tool and strategy to involve citizens in deliberation about health care through the state affiliates. Some of the lessons learned during this partnership are discussed.
