Past research in sports fan psychology covers characteristics of spectators from the beginning of Greek and Roman sporting events up to current athletic events. The purpose of the present analysis is to provide detailed information on sports fans and to answer the question of: Why people attend sporting events. Once fans' needs are recognized, direction can be provided to increase interest in small university sports. Research into fan psychology has been completed and is detailed in the descriptive phase of the current report. Recommendations to small colleges and universities are based on the analysis of research material. Reprinted by permission of the publisher.
