The article discusses different phases of the sharp population increase in the Jewish ghetto outside of Frankfurt, Germany during the 16th century. The Jewish ghetto is called the "Judengasse." The author examines this increase against the background of the changing economic and political conditions for the Jewish community in Frankfurt. The article states that the "Judengasse" was established in 1462. How the city council and the inhabitants failed to drive the Jews out of Frankfurt is also discussed.
