The objective of this study was to investigate the views of students who had undertaken Interprofessional learning (IPL) in the first three months of health care courses. A generic qualitative approach was adopted and three focus groups were used in 2006 to capture the data. A purposive sample of students was selected at one university in the UK. Thematic analysis led to the identification of four main themes: students' understanding of interprofessional learning; educational issues; feelings of isolation; and influence on future practice. Students thought that IPL should involve interaction between students and enable them to find out more about other professions. Common core lectures were not thought to constitute interprofessional learning The findings confirm what other authors have found, but also provide valuable insight into the students' experiences. They can be used to inform quality management processes and curriculum development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
