The article focuses on the arrival of the Tynemouth bride ship in Victoria in 1862 as chronicled by the "British Colonist." The ship carried several single women. The shipment of brides was organized by the Columbia Emigration Society under the auspices of the Anglican church. The very young women were placed in homes as servants until they were old enough to marry. Girls fifteen years and above would be available as brides. The purpose served by the shipment of brides as speculated by publisher Amor De Cosmos is mentioned.
