Sexual addiction is presented as a manifestation of altered neurochemistry brought about by behavioral excess. Neurochemical changes in the brain's reward center that accompany cocaine abuse are compared to those endured by the sexual addict. The accepted model of neuroadaptation for drug dependence is utilized as the foundation for the authors' thesis that sexual addiction, although more complex than drug addiction, is not fundamentally different.
