The article comments on the limitations of the current cardiovascular disease risk assessment strategy with the use of Framingham global risk score. It mentions that one of the limitations of the Framingham risk score that may affect women differently is that it is designed to predict only hard coronary heart disease events, which comprises only a portion of the full spectrum of CVD deserving of prevention strategies. According to the author, the Framingham risk score underestimates risk in some racial and ethnic minority populations, such as African American women and it may overestimate risk in other groups, such as Asian women. The author suggests that women with poor lifestyle habits should be educated about the multi-factorial nature of CVD.
