Facial expressions play a major role in detecting a person's emotions. The use of emotion detection in learning can detect negative emotions of students especially when they perform project presentations. This detected weakness can be overcome with training to improve confidence and presentation communication skills. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of identifying students' emotions during the project study presentation process. This study focuses on two objectives, which are to identify the emotional elements of students and the valence of facial stimulation during the presentation. Through this emotion recognition system, the improvement of presentation communication was successfully realized by training with an emotion recognition system capable of recognizing facial expressions of students. This emotion detection test involves 10 students who are following the elective course which is the Recent Topic in Mechanical Engineering. However, the results of 2 samples of male and female students were chosen to be comprehensively documented in this manuscript. Male student has a high intensity scale compared to female student. A high intensity scale describes the strength of emotions accentuated in facial expressions. The results showed that both male and female students showed a tendency to exhibit negative emotions during the presentation but with different valences from each other. But an intensive training process has been carried out to give presentation communication training to students in order to give a calm facial expression during the presentation. This exercise succeeded in providing a positive impact. It is hoped that the emotion detection training that is introduced in this element of presentation can provide innovation value that is able to contribute towards a better presentation ability among students.
