The article provides information about a study conducted on macaques to investigate the neural basis of theory of mind (TOM) by examining social prediction in their brain activity. The researchers used a nonlinguistic fMRI task involving social and nonsocial video clips and found that a specific region in the macaque middle superior temporal cortex, similar to the human temporoparietal junction (TPJ), was modulated by the predictability of social situations.
