A rational molecular design strategy is introduced for selective metal–ligand coordination, enabling the quantitative self-assembly of heterobimetallic nano-Saturn complexes. During the sequential multicomponent self-assembly, the CdII ions and organometallic trans-PtII motifs demonstrate preferential binding to specific ligands.
