The authors share insights on the relevance of the 2022 American Academy of Pediatrics' neonatal hyperbilirubinemia guidelines for low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). They suggest screening of neonates in high-risk populations to improve outcome of hyperbilirubinemia in newborns with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. They point out the lack of affordable Rh immunoglobulin, suboptimal continual care of newborns, and lack of maternal education in LMICs.
