This historical evidence is quite unlike the suggested fingerings given by Faulkner and Ritchie/Stauffer, which make frequent use of what I call"voluntary hops. Curiously, Faulkner chooses to dismiss this source entirely: "This piece is the least helpful in determining Bach's fingering practice…. Examples of involuntary hops close to the Bach circle are also found iii a Pachelbel work (though it is ascribed iii the source to a "Mr. Holland") that was fingered by Bach student Johann Kirnberger. This source, which shows exactly how Bach thought one hand should finger a single voice, should be very interesting indeed to any organist trying to emulate Bach's keyboard technique.
