The article discusses the efforts to study the deepest ice cores drilled from the continent of Antarctica. Research teams from Australia, China and Europe have conducted their respective research on paleoclimatology. Led by Carlo Barbante, a climate scientist at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice in Italy, the European team will extract a core nearly three kilometers long from an area called Dome C.
