Telomerase is repressed stringently in normal cells but highly activated in tumours to maintain their uncontrollable growth. We report a ratiometric fluorescence strategy for visualising telomerase activity for tumour identification. Using our strategy, tumour cells and tissues can be differentiated from normal cells and tissues by the naked eye. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
