The article explains the significance of maintaining pressures and tidal volumes within appropriate limits to lessen the occurrence of ventilator-induced lung injury. The goal of mechanical ventilation is to keep the patient alive while doing the least harm possible. It is noted that mechanical ventilation can induce or worsen lung injury known as ventilator-induced lung injury. Intubation requires the use of a paralysing agent to let the endotracheal tube be passed between the vocal cords.
