The authors respond to a commentary on their study that constructed a rock magnetic chronostratigraphy of the Shuram carbon isotope excursion at the Wonoka Formation in Australia. They address a potential caveat affecting their conclusion regarding the magnetic signals measured in their study. They also explain factors behind their conclusion about the unlikely role of diagenesis in the origin of the excursion.
