GlobalEd 2 (GE2) is a set of problem-based learning simulations for middle and high school aged students, designed to promote a 21st century global citizenry. Building upon an online communications system and a simulation specific, webbased research environment, GE2 links classrooms of 7th and 8th grade students, who are otherwise separated by physical distance and socio- economic boundaries, with one another through synchronous and asynchronous technologies as they play the role of international science advisors. This paper presents findings from a set of simulations (student n=535). Results indicate positive changes in students interest in pursuing future science education and careers, increase self-efficacy in writing and high quality of written persuasive arguments as a result of participation in GE2. The implications of these results are discussed along with direction for future research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
