The article focuses on the ways to resolve discrepancy between descriptive and injunctive norms among the cross cultural practices and motivational factors that affect the cross cultural differences. Topics discussed include injunctive norms providing moral guidance and anticipation of social sanctioning; less focal injunctive norms than descriptive norms in Western culture; and collective violation of rules and laws observed in collectivist cultures.
