The article looks at the Midwest Artist Studios Project, a road trip undertaken by art teachers Frank Juarez and Jonathan Fritsch, writer and graphic designer Erika Block, and photographer Pat Ryan to visit and document the work of several contemporary artists in the U.S. Midwest with the aim of enhancing art teaching. It presents separate reflections on the project from each of the four participants as well as a short profile of each. Topics include the National Core Arts Standards and artists the group visited including Josh Wilichowski, Jane Ryder, and Suzanne Torres.
