The authors investigate donor cell treatment of convection in finite-difference approximations of convective-diffusive flow. The ratio of the truncation errors diffusion constant to the physical diffusion constant is discussed. Another source of numerical diffusion in the donor cell treatment is crossflow diffusion in multidimensional problems. In many cases crossflow diffusion is the dominant source of errors. A corrective scheme is suggested and numerical results are presented to demonstrate the correct quantification.
