Part of a special issue on process drama. In an introduction to the special issue, the writers contend that the field of theater education's tendency to attempt to expand understanding and scholarship by merely coining a new label for an old practice has caused a confusion that has been detrimental to the field in general and brough about an isolation caused by nothing more than semantic separations. They suggest descriptors that could help in the adoption of a common definition for process drama that is specific enough to properly identify the practice and broad enough to be inclusive of all sound applications of this theatrical form.
