A study was conducted to examine the use of an educational video for increasing the knowledge of patients and improving communication with healthcare providers regarding colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. Patient focus groups, which were conducted before the CRC screening video was developed, provided initial feedback, while medical personnel gave suggestions before final video editing. Patients were able to identify CRC screening barriers and make proposals about information that should be included in the video. They suggested using a physician to state the importance of CRC screening, showing how to complete the fecal occult blood test, and including men and women from different ethnic groups and races who could participate in the same video. Participants examined the video and found that it incorporated their suggestions, it was culturally appropriate, and the information provided was understandable.
