A study examined whether two learning strategies could improve student exam performance in general psychology. When students in study 1 generated questions about the course material on a weekly basis, lower performing students who participated improved their exam performance such that they were indistinguishable from stronger students who did not participate. Meanwhile, when students in study 2 generated concept maps of course topics, they significantly improved performance.
