There is a variety of studies on the topic of exercise, play and sport in all-day schools in Germany. The field of research is characterized by a few comprehensive nationwide studies as well as smaller studies with specific thematic focuses. This scoping review aims to systematize the findings of the research field from approximately the last 20 years. The main research question is “What is the current state of research in the field of exercise, games and sport in all-day schools in Germany?” Based on a systematic literature research in five databases, 52 out of 2365 publications were included in the analysis. The majority were regional cross-sectional studies with a specific focus. The studies predominantly deal with the framework conditions for exercise, games and sport in all-day schools as well as the characteristics of exercise, games and sport. Among other aspects, the analysis highlights the lack of longitudinal studies and the need for research in the field of the quality of physical activity in this setting.
