Summary: According to Chinese medicine traumatic injuries lead to qi stagnation, blood stasis, heat stagnation (inflammation) and accumulation of damp (swelling). This may lead to obstruction in meridians (Bi syndrome) and deficient supply in tissues – causing enhanced scarring, tissue adhesions, calcification, joint stiffness or myofaszial triggerpoints. Chronic pain, restriction of motion and degenerative diseases can develop.Tuina is a manual therapy method and is therefore very well suited to treat local qi and blood stagnation and to improve the flow in all tissues. Additionally acupuncture or herbal treatment can assist in pain treatment or can focus on the relevant TCM-pattern. Tuina is very efficient to release pathogenic factors from tendinomuscular meridians and luo meridians. Depending on the trauma stage the local treatment has to be adapted. Deep and dynamic tuina techniques and passive mobilisation should only be applied in subacute or chronic stages. The adaption of tuina according to the trauma stages of Dr. Karl Zippelius and its integration in acupuncture treatment is shown in four case studies.
