There is an expiration date for foods purchased in any form of commerce. Modern people who use the refrigerator face the same limitation. In fact, the use of the refrigerator gives a false sense of security in terms of food preservation and often leads to foods eventually being discarded from the refrigerator on the account of overdue expiration date. In Korea, 13% of food waste is discarded from overdue expiration date. Waste foods that have passed their shelf life around the world are becoming an important issue in terms of personal health as well as the environment. In this study, we propose a smartphone application called ‘Keep Fresh’ Platform that can reduce the foods that have passed the expiration date and enable fresh food to be consumed for personal health.
