American, 20th century, male. Born 1905, in Chicago; died 1978. Painter, sculptor. Robert Jay Wolff studied at Yale University, and subsequently trained as a painter and sculptor in London and Paris, from 1929 to 1931. He returned to New York and Chicago in 1932 and collaborated with Moholy-Nagy, who was setting up the Chicago School of Design (which later became the Chicago Institute of Design). Wolff was mobilised during World War II, and afterwards taught art at Brooklyn College. He lived in Brooklyn and Ridgefield, Connecticut....
