Hilda Rix Nicholas studied under Frederick McCubbin at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1902 to 1905. In 1907, following her father's death, Rix Nicholas went to England with her mother and older sister. After a brief period at art school in London, she travelled to Paris where she attended the Atelier Delécluse and the Académie Colarossi.
