Korean, 20th century, male. Born 1943, in Korea. Painter. Kang So Lee lived for a time in the USA before returning to Korea. He also travelled in China and Nepal. His work uses contemporary materials but draws its inspiration from traditional calligraphy. Generally working in large formats he evokes, with a few, repeated, effective strokes, light objects in flight, if not the traces of the flight itself. Although apparently simple, his works are full of signification and give an impression of poetic harmony, or a meditation on nature and the constant surging of life....
