Painter, watercolourist, newspaper cartoonist, engraver, lithographer, illustrator. Genre scenes, interiors with figures, portraits, seascapes, architectural views. Albert Edward Sterner started his training at the Art Institute in Birmingham. He studied under Gustave Boulanger, Jules Lefebvre and J.-L. Gérome at the Académie Julian in Paris and went to the USA in 1879, initially as a lithographer and draughtsman in Chicago. In 1885, he founded his own workshop in New York.
