From a Roman family of jurists, physicians and scholars linked to the nobility, he became Bishop of Cotrone in 1496 and of Mileto in 1508. He enlarged the complex of family properties in the centre of Rome in order to reconstruct the della Valle palazzo, which had been razed in 1484 at the order of Pope Sixtus IV. The new palazzo on the Via Papale (now Corso Vittorio Emmanuele) was built (1517) by Lorenzo Lotti. The architrave of the entrance portal still bears della Valle’s name. Originally the Palazzo della Valle presented a well-designed principal façade (later extended by several bays by the Bufalo family) built on three storeys with a series of handsome aedicule windows and an interior courtyard with a Doric arcade. Within the palazzo, the rooms on the piano nobile are embellished with capitals and fireplaces sculpted with the della Valle coat of arms.
