[321546‐81‐0] C21H15O3P (MW 346.32) InChI = 1S/C21H15O3P/c1‐22‐25‐23‐18‐12‐10‐14‐6‐2‐4‐8‐16(14)20(18)21‐17‐9‐5‐3‐7‐15(17)11‐13‐19(21)24‐25/h2‐13H,1H3 InChIKey = XRCJOWMGXYFERD‐UHFFFAOYSA‐N (chiral ligand used in asymmetric metal‐catalyzed hydrogenation, Heck and allylic alkylation reactions) Physical Data: [α]D20+705 (c = 1.10, CHCl3). Solubility: soluble in dichloromethane, methanol, toluene, tetrahydrofuran. Analysis of Purity: 1H NMR, 31P NMR, HRMS. Preparative Methods: the monodentate phosphite BINOL‐POMe (1a) is generally prepared using one of two methods. The first method involves the treatment of the BINOL derived chlorophosphite 3 with methanol in the presence of triethylamine to furnish 1a (scheme , R = Me). This method is general for the synthesis of other BINOL‐derived phosphites (1) where the nature of the R group can be varied by simply using different alcohols. Alternatively, treatment of BINOL with triethylamine followed by the careful addition of dichloromethylphosphite at 0°C affords 1a in one‐step from commercially available materials (eq ). Hence, both strategies provide a concise and modular approach to this ligand, which makes it appealing for asymmetric synthesis. Scheme Purification: flash column chromatography with 20% dichloromethane/hexanes using a short silica plug to quickly elute the ligand from the column, which prevents decomposition. Further purification via recrystallization (dichloromethane/hexanes), albeit this is generally not required. Handling, Storage, and Precautions: bench stable for short periods of time but generally stored in the glovebox. Toxicity is unknown and the compound should be handled using standard laboratory safety practices.
