It has been known that the Joseon Theological Seminary purchased all of the 40 Tenrikyo properties, or so, in Seoul during the US Military Government period. This study, however, sheds new light on that information, a fter r eviewing t he d ocu ments of t he T hird U S Army and t he 40th Company of the US Military Government in charge of the military governance of Seoul from September to December 1945. First, the Joseon Theological Seminary did not purchase all of the forty three properties of Tenrikyo in Seoul from the Military Government but rather rented the buildings and sites of eight churches, including the Joseon Missionary Office, the Great Gyeongseong Church, the Angyeong Church, the Daegwan Church, the Chijang Church, the Hanseong Church, and the Joseon Yongsan Church. Secondly, it was estimated that the rental period was from September to the last week of November, but their lease was decided on November 2, and the lease contracts were completed on November 16. Finally Kim Jae Jun's records, which are widely used as basic data, contain errors o f his memories a bou t the time when t he a pplication w as s ubmitted and the people he met.
