The purpose of this study was to analyze research trends on encouragement in Korea, to set up research directions on encouragement in Korea. For the purpose, this study analyzed 57 journal articles and 133 theses from 2006 to 2017 in the field of education, counseling, and psychology using the following criteria; research time, research participants, research contents, research methods, research variables, type of encouragement. The main results were as follows. First, in terms of research time, research on encouragement began in the early 2000s, and has increased considerably since 2010. In terms of the participants, there were the most articles on encouragement for elementary school students, followed by middle and high school students, college students, and adults. In terms of research contents, there were the most articles on the relationships among encouragement and the variables, followed by effects research. In terms of research methods on encouragement, there were the most articles on survey research, followed by mixed research method, and experimental research. In terms of research variable, there were the most articles on encouragement as a mediation variable, followed by dependency variable, and independent variable. In terms of type of encouragement, self-encouragement were studied more than other-encouragement. The results of this study were discussed and further studies were suggested.
