This study analyzed the role Violet of 『August: Osage County』 from the perspective of personality disorders DSM-5 and applied Katie Mitchell's improvisation to build images of the character and establish transcription. Based on this analysis, this researcher examined the physical-based role creation process in three dimensions with Ruth Zaporah's “Action Theater” which is impromptu acting training. In the process of analyzing Violet's transcription, it was difficult to accept her unusual and serious drug addiction with the universal perception and ideological framework. As I judged that an objective criteria to identify the character's tendency and building a corresponding inner world could help to play the role with confidence, Violet's behavior was analyzed with DSM-5 to reveal the characteristics of borderline personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder shows maladaptive behavior patterns when he/she is separated from a person of attachment, and it shows emotional instability. Based on the borderline personality disorder, Violet's three characteristics were derived: 'fear due to loss of the attachment object,' 'long-lasting emotional instability,' and 'frequent anger expression and aggression against family.' After that, Katie Mitchell's improvisation has been applied to explore and visualize the legitimacy of changes in the character's psychology and physical behavior in order to establish a clear psychological foundation for borderline personality disorder. And to perform Violet, Ruth Zaporah's action theater improvisation training was used to express a typical pattern of borderline personality disorder physically. In the actual production process, the physical behavior of the character was embodied in three dimensions by introducing training methods such as 'hard straight/soft curve', 'bipolar', 'phrase and gestures', and 'props'. By creating a character based on objective criteria, this study attempted to clearly establish the transcription of Violet with remarkable psychological instability. Through this, this study would be meaningful in that it ultimately embodies and develops unscripted prior narratives not revealed in the script by body-based training and presents them as a practical methodology for creating the role of Violet.
