The primordial six days of creation and the seventh-day, Sabbath, which constitute the prima conditio of creation, consist of the repeated simultaneous conversiones of the angelic nature, or the spiritual light which is the “day(dies)” and the resulting contemplation and knowledge of it. In the context of this interpretation, Augustine affirms that the other creatures created after the intelligent creature created on the first day, are not made without the very angelic perception of their eternal reasons(rationes aeternae), which precedes their existence. Thus, the bishop of Hippo reveals the most fundamental ontological meaning of the ‘trinitarian conversio ut intentio’ performed by the intelligent creature including the human soul, created in the greatest similarity to the Trinity, attributing the ultimate fulfillment of the meaning of their being to the concept of its conversio and contemplation. In fact, it is by turning toward its ‘original self’ in the eternal Word of God, returning ‘already’ to that true self that ‘is not yet itself’, that it arrives at its ontological perfection, taking the eternal rest in its Creator.
