The study requests a reconsideration of Korean words in scientific descriptions. In particular, focus on the word ‘생성’. The word ‘생성’ can be misleading. According to the National Institute of Korean Language (NIKL), the meaning of the word is closer to ‘creation’ or ‘generation’, meaning something that has never existed before. However, energy is converted from one form to another, not created or generated. This study found that 3 out of 15 textbooks used the phrase, and very few of the 10 pre-service biology teachers and 10 in-service biology teachers recognized this as awkward. However, some pre-service and in-service biology teachers say that the wording “can be understood in the context of biology”. But from a physics perspective, energy and ‘생성’ are words that don’t belong together. And the typical meaning of the word ‘생성’ doesn’t fit energy in the context of science. As a result, it is needed to think carefully about what words used in our descriptions of the biology, and we also argue that we need to pay attention to predicates as well as subjects when learning the biology.
