This article has a purpose of exploring a philosophical-practical meaning of the self-understanding for objectification of self-awareness through analyzing metaphor of the enlightenment in the 『Chuang-tzu』 and 『Suttanipata』. Reflective awareness of the self-objectification dealt with in philosophical practice and counseling primarily is a sufficient condition for a happy life. And it involves with direct confrontation with inner self suppressed by social representation, while turning into philosophical counseling to resolve conflicts of frustration and despair that the self experiences. From this perspective, metaphor and hyperbole in the 『Chuang-tzu』 and 『Suttanipata』 come to be means to facilitate ‘wandering in absolute freedom’ that Chuang-tzu’s philosophical ideas pursue, and ‘recognizing a path to the Buddha’s enlightenment’ that Buddhism emphasizes. Also, those emerge as processes of self-objectification against the suppressed unconsciousness and life struggles corresponded to natural properties. Thus, this paper tries to examine a process of self-objectification in order to resolve life struggles and develop disruptive self-awareness into holistic through analyzing meanings of metaphor that the 『Chuang-tzu』 and the 『Suttanipata』 retain. And the proceeding leads to a way of considering wandering in freedom which the 『Chuang-tzu』 underlines and awakening the enlightenment which the 『Suttanipata』 dwells on, in conjunction with self-understanding, in terms of philosophical practice, for self-objectification.
