The imagination of boys’ detection and adventure has developed into one of the most important and popular genres of children’s novels, pioneering new narratives in different sense of the times. Jeonghwan Bang’s social and ethnic imagination set a precursor model for the detective adventure novel. Muyoung Yi and Taewon Park discovered the existence of bad boys and narrated their growth through everyday adventures. Naeseong Kim utilized the patriarchal imagination to reinforce entertainment tastes and broaden the popular base of children’s novel. In radio soap operas and rewritings immediately after liberation, Kim foregrounded villains and presented a new way of being for the boy detectives. The Adventures of Ttolttori, in particular, was a decisive turning point. In order to effectively capture the continuities and discontinuities between the pre- and post-colonial periods, it is necessary to genealogically understand the characteristics and historical changes of detective adventure novel. It’s also important to recognize the ways in which translations, adaptations and rewritings have contributed to the narrative of the boy detective and adventure narratives.
