Damjeong Kim Ryeo drew attention as paesasopum literary style in the late Joseon Dynasty, and his unique literary style occupies a unique position in the history of Korean literature. He lived in exile in Jinhae-hyeon, Gyeongsang-do from April 1801 to October 1806. There he recovered his ailing body and mind, and ended his ten years of exile. Jinhae-hyeon is the literary field of Kim Ryeo, where first Korean fishbook ‘Uhaeieobo’, exile's love song ‘Sayuakbu’ and ‘Usanjabgok’, and songs about the lives of the sea people ‘Gwihyeongwansicho’ were written. Kim Ryeo healed himself from the pent-up anger caused by the torture and despair he suffered in a place of exile, Buryeong. He named window in a place of exile 'thinking window' and wrote poems about Yeon Hee, the lover in Buryeong, and the people he remembered. He also recorded the ecology, fishing operations, and recipes of fish through his affectionate gaze on the lives of the fishing village residents and exploration of the real life, and expressed them in poetry. He accepted his plight of being thrown into his exile. Nevertheless, he did not fall into the exile’s plight, and had fellowship with local scholars and monks. He captured the life of Jinhae beach as it was in the poem. For this reason, humanities and geography of Jinhae-hyeon are abundantly reflected in his exile literature. This study examines Kim Ryeo's life during his exile in Jinhae, and researches the places that appear in his literature in detail. In this way, it was possible to understand more deeply and clearly not only Kim Ryeo's literary tendencies and themes of his works, but also his attitude toward life. The nature, people, and customs of Jinhae-hyeon drawn from the eyes of a practical scholar were the fields of his creation and the subject of literature. Hereby his literary heritage should be highly valued in terms of cultural history.
