ABSTRACTA Study on Comparative Awareness of Child Abuse between Ex-Child care Teachers and Current Child care Teachers Hey-Jung Mim Department of Early Childhood Education,Graduate School of Kongju National UniversityGong Ju, Korea(Supervised by Professor Sang, Hee Kim)This study is conducted a survey-based study on the awareness and experiences of child abuse, selecting as the research subjects unmarried and married child care teachers, and school parents with children attending any child care agencies and a career as child care teachers. There is a research outcome that, regarding the awareness of the sign of child abuse, ex-child care teachers rearing children have showed a more sensitive awareness. Concerning such a cause it indicates that the groups of ex-child care teachers and the current child care teachers have, in general, had each high awareness that the sign of child abuse is caused by teachers and the relevant children, respectively in turn. Regarding the awareness of the child abuse report system, the group of the current married child care teachers have, especially, had a higher awareness compared with any other group. The awareness of the necessity of prevention education has showed a high rate among the group of ex-child care teachers. And there has been a high awareness among married child care teachers that the distinction between child punishment and discipline must be clearly made without confusion, in the entire social respect, and further careful public relations and education on child abuse education must be promoted. Regarding the awareness of coping with the experiences of child abuse, the number of the group of many research objects has showed a low frequency of the lectures and training experiences of child abuse. As for the witness and report of the abused children, there are many cases of having not reported it. Concerning such a cause, it shows that most people have considered less serious abuse is. Based on the outcome, above stated, this researcher found that there has still remained the past awareness and methods of child abuse and the importance of its prevention among the entire social members including ex-child care teachers and current child care teachers. Thus it is noted that the pertained academic world and every social member need to pay closer attention to it. Through the research outcome, this research thesis suggests as follows. First, it needs to conduct a study on more child care teachers in larger regions. Second, education and public relations need to be strengthened in the entire social respect. Lastly, institutions such as the academic world and care agencies need to have a more systemical and academic research. Based on these, this study presents the development of more advanced and future-oriented methods of the awareness improvement and interventions.
