The purpose of this study is to analyse empirically whether over-investment entities are manipulating the cash flows of operations in the statement of cash flows more than that of ordinary entities after the adoption of K-IFRS in 2011. The analysis was conducted using a sample of 14,093 firm-year from 2011 to 2018, for non-financial Korean listed companies. We first found that over-investment entities had higher abnormal operating cash flows than ordinary entities in the linear regression analisis. This result could be interpreted as the over-investment entities are more actively involved in adjusting the cash flows of operations than ordinary entities after the adoption of K-IFRS. Over-investment entities were adjusting operating cash flows using through the classification of interests and dividends in a way that more favorable to the cash flows of operations than general entities after the adoption K-IFRS. In further analysis, the results of linear and logistic regression using alternative over-investment entities measures supported the findings of this study. By analyzing the phenomenon of over-investment entities adjusting cash flows of operations under K-IFRS compared to ordinary entities, this paper suggest that accounting information users need attention to understand the statement of cash flows. We also expanded the study of agent theory by linking the quality of the financial statements with the distorted investment decisions of the enterprise and helped complement the previous research analyzing the effects of adoption of K-IFRS.
