This study examined the subtypes for the purpose of using smart devices for children were derived through latent profile analysis, and the difference between the level of dependence on smart devices and problem behavior was verified according to each subtype for the purpose of use. To this end, a self-report evaluation was conducted on 772 mothers of children aged 3 to 5 attending daycare centers nationwide using children smart device usage patterns, children smart device overdependence scales, and children behavior evaluation scales (CBCL 1.5-5), and the results are as follows.First, when analyzing the main results of the correlation between major variables, focusing on smart device overdependence, the more smart device overdependence, the more smart device leisure use and less education purpose use. The higher the dependence on smart devices, the more severe the internalizing problem behavior, externalizing problem behavior, and overall problem behavior among the problem behaviors of children, and the higher the atrophy and attention problem. Second, as a result of classifying subtypes according to data/information retrieval, leisure, communication, and education, which are the purpose of using children’s smart devices through latent profile analysis, the final four subtypes were identified, focusing on leisure and education. The subtypes were four profiles as 'minimal usage’(n=226, 29.3%), ‘educatuon-communication oriented’(n=152, 19.7%), 'high game-entertaining oriented’(n=276, 35.8%) and 'excessive multiple App.usage’(n=118, 15.2%). Third, as a result of conducting a variance analysis to compare the differences in problem behavior according to the subtypes for the purpose of using children smart devices, the differences between subtypes in internalizing problem behavior were significant. As a result of the post-analysis, ‘high game-entertaining oriented' and 'excessive multiple App.usage' were higher than the 'educatuon-communication oriented', and the 'education-communication oriented' had higher scores for internalizing problem behavior than the 'minimal usage'. As a result of comparing the differences in the seven (emotional responsiveness, anxiety/depression, physical symptoms, atrophy, sleep problems, attention problems, and aggression) problem behavior syndrome scales, emotional reactivity was highest in the 'high game-entertaining oriented' and 'excessive multiple App.usage', followed by the 'educatuon-communication oriented'. The 'minimal usage' was the lowest. In addition, the 'excessive multiple App.usage' had the highest attention problem among the four subtypes. 'high game-entertaining oriented’ scored higher on attention problems than the 'education-communication oriented' and the 'minimal usage'. As such, this study is meaningful in that it classified subtypes for use by reflecting the characteristics of multi-purpose use of smart devices through latent profile analysis for children, and identified differences in smart device dependence and problem behavior for each subtype.
