This study mainly tried to explore the cultural translation and the corresponding translation strategies from the perspective of Jef Verschueren’s pragmatic adaptation theory, and to conduct comprehensive research on the styles of both Zhang Zhenyu’s and Yu Fei’s Chinese versions of Mr. Lin Yutang’s world famous English novel Moment in Peking, using English-Chinese parallel corpus, Wordsmith 6.0 and Antconc.Mr. Lin is a world-renowned bilingual and double culture writer and translator, and his novel Moment in Peking was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times. In 1977, Zhang Zhenyu, an expert in the study of Lin Yutang, published his Chinese translation of Moment in Peking (《京华烟云》). In 1991, Yu Fei published his Chinese translation of Moment in Peking (《瞬息京华》). Few people made comprehensive and systematic comparisons between Yu Fei’s and Zhang Zhenyu’s translations from the perspective of adaptation theory. In this dissertation, both qualitative and quantitative research methods were employed. On the one hand, qualitative methods were employed to analyze how the two translators made adaption to achieve their translation purpose, and what cultural translation strategies they employed in the process of adaptation. Firstly, both versions have achieved faithfulness to the original text on the whole. Secondly, in terms of linguistic adaptation degree, there are both similarities and differences in the application of translation methods and strategies in these two versions. Thirdly, Mr. Yu adopted a way of literal translation so as to maintain faithful to the original text, while in order to realize the same function as the original text, Zhang often used free translation, for example, converting parts of speech and regrouping syntactic structure, etc.On the other hand, the quantitative research methods with Wordsmith 6.0 and Antconc were employed to compare the different styles of the two versions. The major findings in this aspect are as follows. Firstly, in the lexical aspect, according to ranking of key words, the top ten key words in the two versions are nearly the same. According to the analysis of key words that are the same and those that are different with Chinese cultural characteristics in the two Chinese versions, most of the key words that are the same and those that are different can be seen as belonging to surface level culture. Secondly, at the syntactic level, the average length of the sentence fragments within Yu’s version is slightly larger than that of Zhang’s version. In the syntactic adaptation aspect, according to the Chinese mode of thinking and coherence, Mr. Zhang applied the translation strategies of changing prepositional phrases and nominal phrases into sentences, and reorganizing sentence, etc, in order to make the semantic expression more distinct and smooth, and description more exquisite, while most of Mr. Yu’s version abided by synthetic ordering of the source text, and used more concise expressions. Thirdly, under the guidance of the purpose of translation, in order to obtain Chinese readers’ acceptance, Mr. Zhang showed a higher degree of significance of adaptation, because he took into account the contextual relevance and syntactic structure, the intention of the original author and the acceptability of the target audience. Yu reduced the demanding of microscopic elements such as conversion of parts of speech, syntactic ordering, and discourse cohesion. 본 연구는Jef Verschueren의 언어 적응설의 관점에서 张振玉和郁飞가 번역한 林语堂의 Moment in Peking의 중국어 번역본을 비교대조분석 하였다. 林语堂은 이중언어와 이중문화에 능숙한 세계적인 작가이자 번역가로서 소설 Moment in Peking은 1977년에 张振玉에 의해 《京华烟云》 중국어판이 출간되었고 1991년에는 郁飞에 의해 《瞬息京华》 중국어판이 출간되었다. 본 연구는 두 번역본을 출간한 작가가 언어 적응설을 번역작품에 어떻게 적용하였는지, 어떤 문화전략을 사용하였는지 관점에서 비교분석한 결과, 원작에 충실하기 위해 郁飞는 직역을 한 반면에 张振玉은 어휘를 대체하거나, 문장을 재구성하는 등 가독성번역에 충실하였다. 또한, 병렬말뭉치Wordsmith 6.0, Antconc를 통한 분석결과, 두 번역본의 검색어 나열순위는 거의 유사했으며, 중국문화 관련 검색어는 표면적인 것들이 대부분이었다. 통사적으로 郁飞의 번역본은 张振玉의 번역본에 비해 문장이 긴 편이었으며, 언어 적응설의 관점에서 张振玉은 중국어의 사고방식과 문장 연결법에 기반하여 세부적인 부분까지 고려하여 정확하고 자연스러운 언어를 사용하였다. 다른 특징으로는, 명사중심 문장으로 번역했으며, 문장 재구성 등 다양한 번역기법 사용이 밝혀졌다. 대조적으로, 郁飞는 원작의 어순을 그대로 따랐고, 보다 쉬운 표현기법을 취하였다. 张振玉은 문맥 사이의 연관성과 통사구조에 신경을 썼을 뿐만 아니라 원저자의 집필목적 그리고 독자들이 얼마나 받아들일 수 염두에 두고 최대한 중국 독자들이 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 하였다. 이에 반해 郁飞는 어휘, 어순, 담화 등 미시적인 영향 요소에 대해 소홀했음이 밝혀졌다.키워드: Moment in Peking; 언어 적응설;문화번역;문맥 적응;구조 적응;Wordsmith 6.0; Antconc
