This study is intended to empirically investigate differences between Ethnic Minority Chinese and Han Chinese in their purchase intention towards Japanese products. Meanwhile these differences are hypothesized to be mediated by their differences in Chinese identity, consumer animosity towards Japan and consumer ethnocentrism. Surveys were carried out with consumers in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia with 150 Mongolian Chinese and 150 Han Chinese. The findings indicate that there exist differences between Mongolian Chinese and Han Chinese in their experiences and purchase inclinations of Japanese products. On the one hand, differences in experiences of Japanese products were mediated by Chinese identity and consumer animosity towards Japan, as well as partially mediated by consumer ethnocentrism; on the other hand, differences in purchase inclinations of Japanese products were not only mediated by Chinese identity, consumer animosity and consumer ethnocentrism but also originated from the differences between these two ethnic groups. And the final part is about implications and limitations of this study.
